okay no but really. Ann Beattie’s Walks with Men is a little ~100-page Scribner deal that came out last year, and I picked it up for a few dollars at the Strand at some point last semester. I finished it within the day, and then read it again, and I read it every month or so now because it is beautiful, but I have to stop at page 66 because after that it gets so unbearably sad that I can’t even think about it, let alone read it.

but I don’t want to talk about the book, lovely as it is. I’ll leave that to you to discover. I want to talk about the romance.
